La Basilica in Quito Equidor

Quito boasts up in the clouds hotel Rumiloma plus La Basilica

Ok so I decided to do the ‘ol hop, skip and jump, from Cartagena, Colombia to Quito, Ecuador, finally jumping onto Peru as my final destination during my latest travels, during August 2015. So the “skip’ was here into Quito, the capital of Ecuador. I knew nada about Quito, just trusting my instincts, and so everything was a complete surprise. And what a pleasant surprise it was!

Thursday August 13th 2015, landing in Quito, I had done “less than zero” research, only choosing a highly reviewed hotel Hacienda Rumiloma, even higher into the mountains. All the way up to the top of Obispo Diaz de la Madrid. No street number, HUH?, but tell the taxi driver all the way up up to the west. It was a long drive, dark and winding, and I was as clueless as to where the hotel was and what it looked like. Signage along the way? hahahaha! I tell you what, the drive was certainly worth it – WOW, how gorgeous!!

Love the tiny room key here at Rumiloma, Quito

Friday August 14th 2015, I taxied down, way down to el Centro Historico, to wander around for several hours. During which, unbeknown to be, there were riots and volcanic eruptions, coinciding with my visit. Amazingly since I discarded cable news years ago, I had a delightful time irregardless. Ah, the bliss of selective ignorance. See I spend my time and energy traveling the world, and connecting with my fellow Entrepreneurs. In doing such, I realized we all need help and support, so I created a continuous improvement system called The NOVA Way, used to better those around me. One of the fruits of the NOVA Way was the Entrepreneur Social Club, a fun and productive club for Entrepreneurs, business owners, designers, students, mentors, start-ups – anyone with a positive attitude willing to improve while having a great time. We do exclude religion and politics, both forbidden by club rules. So the La Basilica del Voto Nacional below is shown for architectural, cultural and historical significance, nothing to do with religion. There I began my delightful day of exploring the historico centro of Quito, Ecuador. A World Heritage site, in case you didn’t know, and it’s 100% impressive.

Saturday August 15th, another early morning, the 10,000 feet altitude continuing to muss with my sleep, lots of wild n crazy dreams again, plus the heater in the room drying me into el pruno. But waking up to the view, to the west, over Quito, surrounded by the clouds, is magnificent. These smartphone photos aren’t ANYWHERE close to reality, trust me here. Just ask me amigos the lamas and the peacocks. If you are not already, GET OUT AND EXPLORE OUR PLANET!!

** DISCLAIMER ** Religion and Politics are forbidden by ESC rules. This story is showcasing the architectural, engineering and construction feats that the wonderful people of Quito have accomplished.
